The Cremation Society of Great Britain Symposia

Symposium 1: "Cremation Matters"

The Anglican Chapel, Arnos Vale Cemetery, Bath Road, Bristol BS4 3EW

Wednesday 24th October 2012 - 10.30-15.30

THE CREMATION SOCIETY SYMPOSIA

The Cremation Society was founded in 1874 to promote cremation as an alternative to burial. Today 74% of funerals in the United Kingdom involve cremation. But funeral customs and procedures evolve and develop in terms of choice, costs, environment, ethics - and the varied contributions of funeral directors, crematorium staff, clergy and celebrants.

The Symposium "Cremation Matters" is the first in an annual series in which the Cremation Society hosts an open forum for both the general public and funeral service organisations to focus on matters of common interest.

The first Symposium will be held in the newly restored Anglican Chapel at Arnos Vale Cemetery, Bristol, established in 1839. Arnos Vale built Bristol’s first Crematorium, which was open between 1928 and 1989. Arnos Vale is now being restored and managed by Arnos Vale Chatitable Trust with major grant aid from Heritage Lottery Funding, English Heritage and Bristol City Counci.

Registration for the Symposium is £45, including lunch, teas and coffees. The Student Fee is £25. An Optional Guided Tour of Arnos Vale will take place at the end of the Symposium (weather permitting) at a cost of £5. The fee for the tour is non-refundable in the event of your cancellation or if the tour is cancelled because of bad weather. To book your place please complete an application form and return it with the appropriate fee to the Cremation Society.
